Hi, does anyone have any suggestions for good books on
Japanese grammar? I checked the faq, and there are some
nice things, but also many references to the faq booklists,
which are temporarily closed (and the link to old reviews
on Jim Breen's site is broken, too).
I'm an intermediate student (in Japanese for Busy People
Vol. II), and I think I would benefit from a detailed
description of the grammar. The only grammar books I
have are Barron's little book, and some special topics
such as Sue Kawashima's Dictionary of Japanese Particles
and Rita Lampkin's Japanese Verbs and Essentials of
Grammar.
I second the recommendation for the Dictionary of Intermediate Japanese
Grammar, but also suggest you consider: <http://tinyurl.com/2mykde>
Yes, it's all in Japanese, but relatively simple Japanese with furigana
over all the kanji in the many examples (although not in the description
underneath, but I did say it's relatively simple, didn't I?).
Maybe get both so you can compare their coverage?
