Nope. Script and rip-and-read. The trick is to read large chunks ofVery interesting. I guess that means you have to be very much aware of
copy into memory and recite from that. Then you are smooth grabbing
the next chunk, smooth turning pages, smooth when you lose your
place, and smooth handing off to the other knuckheads on the

what you are reading in order to avoid embarrassing mistakes.
I can do it with cold copy. I've exceeded the 9000-word-per-minute
limit on a tachistoscope measuring reading speed (English, not
Japanese!), and grabbing paragraphs at a time is the trick to doing
that. I just snapshot a paragraph into my head and let it do player
piano to my mouth while my mind creates the proper delivery. It's
really a knuckleheaded skill and I'd rather be dancing.
Not going to claim that speed (I'm around 1000 words/minute), but that
isn't how I read aloud. I read sentences during a breathing pause so
that I know what's coming up. I try to keep four or five sentences
ahead. If I start to stammer and stutter, the problem is that the
material is too complex for me to stay far enough ahead, or that I'm
having to concentrate hard enough on the material ahead that it
interferes with my delivery of the line I'm at.
