A sig to die for!

They can take my free, multiply-implemented, standard message access
protocols when they pry them from my dead, cold hands.

Mine too, but I fear they'll have been unused for quite a while. In
the heyday of Usenet I used to read more than 15 active groups. Now it's
down slj (messages most days), flij (a couple a week), scjm (virtually
nothing), and a couple of technical groups associated with my ISP
(a couple per month).

Anything that forces me to use the vendor's web interface, rather than
letting me select from any client program that can access the message
base, is a dead end.

成る程. One of the things I like about Usenet is I can keep an eye
on arrivals, and read it when something pops up, whereas with blogs
and WWW forums you usually have to go digging (yes, there are RSS feeds,
etc. as options.) I must admit I like Gmail's interface, where new emails
pop up unasked. Does that count as a "vendor's web interface"?
