I can send to self and to here with unicode with no
problems. She claims that she can read other peoples
letters just fine. The same problem occurs to the swedish
letters åäö as well.

Any suggestions what can be wrong and how to kill it?

Try three more e-mails, one encoded as Shift-JIS, one in Unicode, and one encoded as ISO-2022-JP. CC me (remember, it's really .net, not ..nut). Report the results on her end, I'll look at what I get, and I might be able to help.
