I think you may have to install some additional SCIM packages to get
romaja input. Perhaps scim-tables? I'm not sure, since I installed it
quite some time ago. SCIM also comes with a canna module, but I prefer
using the UIM canna module (through SCIM using the SCIM-UIM module).
SCIM also has a pinyin module for Chinese input, both simplified and
traditional.

Indeed, my "soon" was wrong.

The user manual made it look like maybe I also needed scim-hangul, which
I therefore downloaded, although the description of that application
makes it sound like I would use a hankul keyboard. Unfortunately it
seems that my senility has reached a stage where I can't just glance at
a manual and understand what it's telling me to do. Long gone the days
of Do first, read the manual later.

I can't claim much progress. I have reached the stage where I can
actually input hankul, but so far not the hankul of my choice.

It seems to be based on a Korean keyboard layout, and my keyboard says "QWERTYUIOP"!

I try that in Korean: ㅂㅈㄷㅛㄳㅕㅑㅒㅖ. That was "3bul 2bul-shifted"!
If I use "Hangul," it comes out: ㅂㅈㄷㄱ쇼ㅕㅑㅐㅔ. Ain't that
wunnerful! What if I use "Hanja"? 뷔쥐뒤龜쇼uiop. Ooh! Wunnefuller and
wunnerfuller! "3bul No-Shift": ㅅㅕㄹㅐ러ㄷㅁㅊㅍ. Ditto, but pressing
the shift key: ㅅㅕㄹㅐ;<789>. This is just too much fun. I'd better
quit and get on with my life.
