Best fixes:
1) If you use the XP's built-in IME Standard (red icon) input method,
then you'll need to go to TOOLS -> Properties -> Default input mode in
the General TAB, and select Half-Width Alphanumeric.
This is the closest you'll come and you'll always revert to entering
only Alpha characters after right clicks.
2) If you use the XP's built-in Natural Input IME (blue icon), you'll
need to go to Tools -> properties -> Input mode on startup under General
Tab, and select Half-Width Alpha numeric.
Also, this IME is smarter - if you select any of the input modes
(eg. alphanumeric), right-clicking won't change the mode at all.
I, too, prefer the Natural IME. Unfortunately, it doesn't work with all
programs and you have to settle on the Standard IME.
