Can't seem to get the characters in Ben's thread at all. Sorry about
multiple post folks, Was just trying to figure out the settings...
Well, this one got to my ISP, because it's in regular UTF8; not
base64-encoded.
I guess the message is not to post from Google, as some parts of the
Usenet tree delete its messages.
I still haven't finished my test because I exceeded my Google Groups quota.
I still have to do a Google Groups English view/ Japanese view comparison.
However, based on what I have done and what I had done on previous
occasions, the Japanese view does not convert your post to base64. Thus,
if you absolutely have to post from Google Groups and you need to include
Japanese writing, set your language preferences to Japanese.
This is not a panacea. Even set to Japanese, if you're responding to a
us-ascii post in a thread where the first post was us-ascii (according to
Google Groups, then Google Groups converts your response to us-ascii. It
does this even if your page encoding is set to something other than
us-ascii and you have included Japanese in your post.
To overcome this obstacle, you have to create a new thread. By including
Japanese in a Japanese view Google Groups, the outgoing post will be sent
out as iso-2022-jp.
