Re: Beginner Question about Kana/Kanji/Romaji

Romanji has the benefit where you can pick up thousands of words
very quickly in Japanese w/o getting bogged down in the reading
aspect.

The kana grant this same benefit, and have none of the pitfalls of
romaji -- such as English-language preconceptions of pronunciations
that would lead someone to say "romanji".

If the only alternative to learning words via kanji was learning them
via romaji, it would be more difficult to recommend against learning
via romaji. However, that's not the case: Japanese has the kana, and
romaji is a trap to be avoided.
