Hum, I think that just *listening* to a good quantity of actual japanese
already would help a lot. That could be a great shock though at first
after only being confronted to japanese in text book. I think they are
some news programs aired on the internet, but it might be not en easy
start, and something with subtitles would be better. So try to search
for the jdrama keyword, and you'll find many things.

Another interesting option would be to try Skype and search for some
japanese who want to enhance their english.
