No ones commenting that these "writing systems" are "pictographic"
writing systems.
Maybe that was more of an argument in sci.lang.... (?)


The pictograph aspect of the system is trumped by the dictionary definition, however. No-one sells their older sisters in the market anymore (almost no-one), for example, so the pictograph of woman and market no longer accurately represents the meaning of the word.
