First question:
Which version of Windows are you using?

The operating system running on my PC is Windows98SE.

I put the hard disk with Win98 to another computer,
I could read the files but didn't find Jamondo.
I could only boot it in safe mode, for normal booting,
plug and play finds 30 ore more new hardwares and it doesn't
go further than seeking driver fo USB port.

So, practically I can't help solving your problem.

On the other hand, on google seaching, I found that jamondo still
seems to be able to download from microsoft's site.

(if next line is broken, please copy and paste to make one line before
copying to your browser)

If you can successfully download the file, then you can reinstall it
on your system. Hope it helps.

There was small tip about downloading and installing jamondo, but
I don't remember it now.

--- after searching archive of my mails, I found three mails about jamondo
and one post to <sci.lang.japan> in December 1999...

<quote>
A close friend of mine is using IE & Outlook Express and was using Global-IME for
reading/writing Japanese text. One click of somewhere on the net updated her IE,
give some add-in, then the writing of Japanese disabled. I went to help, and
tried to re-install Jamondo (Global-IME) I brought there some months ago, but
installation was rejected that 'This version of OS is not supported".
(Microsoft always "confuse" what's OS and what's software. Now WinXX and IE
and Office and VB and ActiveX are working together and you can't say where is
the boundary of OS.) Since I uninstalled everything related to Japanese,
she couldn't read Japanese mails/webs any more.

The only way left was download IME again. After many many times of trial and
error, finally she could download it, installed it, and now she can WRITE
on the Web pages, too!

I didn't noticed update version of IME on <s.l.j>. Did you know about it?

And this quote suggests you could write Japanese only with IE & Outlook Express.
then I don't know how I wrote Japanese on netscape these days...

Thank you for your taking time out to help me so much.
As instructed, I have downloaded the jamondo. But it
didn't work. I suspect that somebody has maliciously
hijacked the jamondo on my PC, so that I was forced to use it
only on his web site, where it works. The problem
is how to identify this trojan, so that I can remove it,
after I activate a spyware. I am afraid to tinker
with such a tool, for I am not so skilled PCwise as to deal
with such. Tinkering with PC on the part of me, so unskilled,
might result in a nightmare, such as a total crash of my machine.
In the meantime, I might have to resign to my shame
to forgetting about browsing Japanese web sites, which I used to visit
for years, using the jamondo, without any problem encountered.

Thank you so much.
