I have now bought (but not yet received) both [_Remembering the
Kanji vol. I_ and _Kanji Learner's Dictionary_]. What is the process
for replacing his keywords with the Halpern ones (or is it obvious)?
For the kanji that are in the _Kanji Learner's Dictionary_, it's
obvious: use the "core meaning" from KLD to replace the "keyword" of
RtKI. The KLD covers all the 常用 and 人名用 kanji, so the majority of
the RtKI kanji are covered.
Less obvious is what meanings to use for the several hundred remaining
kanji and components in RtKI. As I said, I hope someday to get my list
of substitutes online so that I can point people to it.
In the meantime, I can point you to this post
<URL:http://groups.google.com/group/sci.lang.japan/msg/8a085fed4edcca79?dmode=source>
where I listed the sources and the relative preference I gave for
choosing meanings for each of the RtKI characters.
