... If you die suddenly, what will
happen to your internet activity? I bet you continue receiving e-
mails. You are dead, but your e-mail account keeps alive. If you do
on-line banking and receive and pay bills on-line, you'll keep
receiving bills, but you won't be able to pay forever unless your
family members know the password to get on-line and take over the on-
line business. My bank is trying to get me into "e-bill" service, but
it is so scary.
My guess is that as far as the e-mail account goes, most people's would
soon be maxed out, and senders would notices that their mail, including
bills, was not accepted by the recipient account.
I have wondered what is the equivalent of a "death notice" in an
electronic community. If I fell off the twig tomorrow, how would people
find out? In a couple of instances in recent years a spouse/child has
gone to the deceased's computer and sent an APB to everyone in the address
book, which is one way I guess (my wife doesn't know my Google password,
but she can probably guess it.)
I try to do all my financial stuff on-line (there is sooo much to shred,
otherwise), and have worried a bit about what happens when my computer
dies. When I die, my wife just needs a list of our accounts that she
can have a sighted person contact for her.
I trust you have one prepared. We have a record book we bought with
sections for all the info heirs, executors, etc. should know. We also
have a filing cabinet with all the main data, and our kids know what's
in it.
