So my question to all you that are reading this is "What to buy and
what to avoid?"
What you buy will have far less effect on your learning than what you
do.
Of all things to learn, a language is particularly insusceptible to
learning by buying materials and self-studying only. Your first
priority should be to find other people who speak the language, at a
level higher than you, with whom you can converse face-to-face;
ideally, native speakers of the language.
