how would one say "if i happen to" (i.e "if i happen to make dinner,
i'll invite a friend over")?
I'm not sure that your original question was answered. Cindy hints at
the answer, but I think that the way Japanese people say "If I happen
to" is もしかしたら、
もしかしたら、夕ご飯を作れば、友達を招きます。
moshikashitara, yuugohan wo tsukreba, tomodachi wo manekimasu.
By the way, if I happen to make dinner, I'm inviting a friend over.
It is always helpful to know who is talking to who when asking for
translations. Sometimes the politeness level changes. I can think of
two words that might change depending on who is speaking. "Dinner" and
"invite".
