Re: A little Japanese test

How do you like to try the following two little Japanese tests?

Translate the following two Japanese sentences into two English sentences
each showing clear differences in the meaning.

1. Probably about leve 2.

 「笑っちゃった。」

a.
I couldn't help but smile.

b.
I unintentionally laughed.

2. Probably about level 1 or much higher.

「歌っちゃった。」

a.
I couldn't help but sing.

b.
I composed this song/poem. (Had to look up 歌う to remind myself of
this sense.)

I hit on the above test after I had a long talk (chattering mostly in
Japanese) with one of the American flight attendants during my flight from
Dallas to Narita. Her Japanese was very very nice, so I couldn't help but
praise her Japanese saying to her, "Your Japanese is very nice, not only
polite but also very elegant."

She said she liked studying Japanese but had failed three times in the
tests
of JLPT level 2. She said she had failed the last test only by one point.
