could you re-read previous responses to save time?
: As an aside: Did you know that the Turkic languages originated in
: what is now Mongolia?
inscriptions in what is now Mongolia and Tannu Tuva (rep. in the Russian
Federation; where turkic is still spoken), and Chinese and other annals.
: It was a band of Mongolians who brought the Turkic language all the
: way to present day Turkey around 1236 AD at the battle of Anzikert
Turks conquered Anatolia rapidly after the Manzikert (Malazgirt) in 1071,
but there was even a trickle of turkish nomads from Seljuk Iran before.
more came to anatolia either pushed by the Mongols or accompanying them.
: (sp?).
: When I read about the Golden Horde allying themselves with the Turks,
the Khans were of Mongol origin, first speaking mongolian, but in a few
generations they too adopted turkic. the soldiery was turkic and augmented
by local Koman turks, and eventually their language became that of the
Komans.
: I think to myself that, linguistically, they are the same!
: The language family that Mongolian language (AKA Khalki) is from is
: Altaic. Altaic family of language has 2 branches: Mongolian and
: Turkic. This family of languages is spoken all the way in Bulgaria,
usually Altaic is thought of (by those who accept the theory) Turkic,
Mongolic and Tungusic (includes Manchu). more controversially, Korean and
Japanese.
: Afghanistan, Iran (25% of the population speaks a Turkic language),
rather languages, but mostly Azeri, very close to Anatolian turkish.
: Turkey, Uzbekistan, Krygistan, Kazakhstan, North West China (AKA Xin
: Jiang), and Mongolia all speak this. Even the Muslims of
: India/Pakistan speak Urdu (Turkic word for "Army or camp"), which has
: many Turkic and/or Mongolian loan words!
