I tried to order 'café com leite' in Furadoura (between Aveiro and
Porto), repeatedly wasn't understood, and finally got 'café com nata'.
Due to my bad imitation of the Lisboan pronunciation? Or my Lisboan
was right, but the waiter wasn't used to hearing it in this relatively
northern area? (How's that possible, the place was packed with
Portuguese tourists, probably from all over the country).
Or (and this seems most likely to me) he simply couldn't believe that
an apparent tourist could speak Lisboan, and therefore simply didn't
hear what I said, trying to detect French or English from it?

Back to your joke: it seems rather unlikely and stupid to me that a
Brasilian stewardess on a flight to Portugal isn't also familiar with
the Portugal style of pronunciation. Should be part of their training?

Strange things happen in Portugal too: 'Café duplo' was sometimes
understood without problems, but many other times only caused question
mark faces. Because I didn't do this '"A" espremido, reduzido' right?
(I still find it difficult). Because of the strange stress-pattern:
unstressed-stressed-stressed-unstressed&whispered?

One time, in a café-bakery which was part of a supermarket, I had to
explain what a 'café duplo' is: they did understand me, but didn't
know the concept. Very strange.
