Thinking this a bit more, I guess part of what I'm asking about is,
more generally, the line, if any, between linguistics, and linguistic
philosophy, and the analytic tradition of philosophy of language. I
mean, when Russell talks about present kings of France, and JL Austin
talks about speech acts, and Kripke talks about rigid designators,
aren't they doing linguistics? And, in fact, when any philosopher of
mind asks about the meaning of ascriptions of mental states, isn't the
task essentially a linguistic one?
