sometimes the distinction between ti:n(un) "fig tree" (properly a
collective)and balas(un) "fig (fruit)" is observed, more so in
classical arabic. balas(un) seems quite rare in MSA but still
occasionally found, and rare in classical arabic as well.
I don't know of any etymological notes, and also for the ones I haven't
answered yet. if you put them all under one heading in the future like
"arabic words" then it will be easier to search them in the future
should I run across any etymological notes.
