Buck's dictionary of IE synonyms gives the following as Sanskrit for
water
"jala-, a:p-, udan-, ambhas-, va:r-, etc"
jala- the most common Sanskrit word for water, is cognate with German
Quelle, spring
a:p- (usually plural a:pas, waters) is cognate with Latin amnis, river
udan- is from Sanskrit "ud-", wet, flow, and cognate with English water,
Latin unda (wave), and lots of others.
ambhas- and ambhu- is cognate with Latin imber, rainstorm
va:r- is cognate with Latin u:rina, urine.
Buck gives no Sanskrit word cognate with "aqua"
John.
