Coopers of course, but in those days of pubs being owned
by breweries you couldn't get Coopers at all, unless you
drove to South Australia. In fact, you had no bloody choice.
Even Carlton (the Victorian tipple). I remember going to
the pub opposite Spencer Street railway station (in 1968).
I was sick of Carlton Draught, but that was all there
was on tap. So I got a bottle of (Carlton) Crown Lager
from the fridge, took it to the girl at the bar.
"That'll be ... (25c I think) ta". I paid, went to
a table, sat down. "There's a five-cent surcharge if
you drink it here" the girl said. I went back to the
bar, gave her 5 cents. "I don't want your five cents!"
And that is why I love Australians. Still.
