The last is not really an example (any more), in that AC & DC have
effectively become words in themselves (a little like Mr & Mrs) and in
many contexts can no longer be replaced by the phrases for which they
were originally abbreviations. Nobody would say "direct-current
voltage", for example; but "DC voltage" is the usual expression for
what it denotes.
