Youngsters, yes, most of the time it's Islander ladies, Indian,
Korean?, Vietnamese?, youngsters from Europe on 6 month
working holidays.
The extra bagging of the cold items is for added insulation
as well as to prevent butter leaking into your car boot.
Produce (vegetables, fruit, etc) is usually collected from
the shelves by the customers and put into thin plastic bags
taken from a dispenser. The cashier has weighing machine
built into the bar in front of her just at the end of the conveyor
belt. I was doubtful about the precision of these contraptions
but when I checked the weights later I found them to be
surprisingly accurate. Spot on from several kg bags of
apples down to 50g of almonds.
