It's always possible to find some excuse to blame on. It's rather a
matter of attitude, I think. He chooses to escape the problem with an
excuse, rather than curing the problem. That's his choice.

Availability and affordability of tape recorders, telephones, etc.
(and nowadays, mobile phones, digital recorders, etc.)?
Indeed, I don't even bother to type SMS. I simply make a call to say
