There is also the Gamil'tony, a family of Scottish Hamiltons who went
to Russia & married into the aristocracy. One of them, apparently by
chance, managed to act out in remarkable detail the story in the
Scottish ballad "Mary Hamilton" (Child 173). Child, who researched
her grotesque story with his usual thoroness, could not find out when
& why these Hamiltons had migrated to Russia, and Google is silent on
the subject.
