Some of the sites I have to go to (such as my online banking) don't work with 4.7 any more (because it doesn't do JavaScript right, or something like that), so I had to download 6.something (the latest pre-OS X version, it seems). The sites work fine, but excruciatingly slowly.
If you really need it, try
"Looking for software for Mac OS 9?
Due to the lack of developer interest, build machines, compilers and testing resources, the last Mozilla.org Mac OS 9 build is Mozilla 1.2.1. Click here (ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mozilla/releases/mozilla1.2.1/mozilla-macos9-1.2.1-full.bin) to download this version. Volunteers occasionally provide new updates that may be of interest to users, such as the Mozilla 1.3.1 build by Harunaga Hirotoshi (http://www.t3.rim.or.jp/%7Eharunaga/mozilla-macos9/, http://www.t3.rim.or.jp/%7Eharunaga/mozilla-macos9/mozilla-macos9-1.3.1.sea.bin), and a variation on this build by WaMCom (http://wamcom.org/latest-131/,
http://www.wiwi.uni-frankfurt.de/wamcom/20030723/wamcom-131-macos9-20030723.sit) that includes some Mozilla 1.4 code and extensions. "
The .bin and .sit files are Stuffit files. I don't know it very well, but I suppose you have no trouble opening them in a Mac.
The WaMCom version is probably the best thing you can get at this point for Mac OS 8.6. I don't know whether the others only work on OS 9.
Netscape 6.x was a rebrand of Mozilla 0.9.x. Mozilla only really became usable with 1.2.1, so you may want to give at least WaMCom a try.
