Re: michelle bachelet -- how does she pronounce her name?



She speaks Spanish, English, German, Portuguese, French and some
Russian;
but not Araucanian, AFAIK.

anyway her name is pronounce michel bachelet, both /ch/ as in church or
chair, and with a sounded final /t/ (as in pinochet).

freaky dates about her, there´s a lot: daughter of an Air Force
general, who refused to join the sept 11th coup, tortured along with
her mom (some said she was raped also), exiled to germany, where she
learn the language in 6 month well enough to finish top of her class
(she is a physician), she later studied defence issues, again top of
her class (she was the only civilian there), later on minister of
Health and after that she was the first woman appointed Minister of
Defense (2º in the world after a dane o swede lady), an so on, they
say she will be the fist woman to be elected president in Chile and in
south-america.
