My first NZ passport issued in 1974 says:
The holder is a NEW ZEALAND CITIZEN and British Subject.

My second NZ passport issued in 1984 says:
The holder is a NEW ZEALAND CITIZEN.

The NZ passport issued in 1994 says:
NEW ZEALAND.
:-)

Now I notice the 1994 version doesn't even include
the old incantation:
The Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over
New Zealand requests and requires in the Name of Her Majesty
the Queen all those whom it may concern to allow the bearer
to pass freely without let or hindrance and to afford the bearer
such assistance and protection as may be necessary.
