Why are microfilms unusable?

Were you trying to read the microfilms with merely a magnifying glass
and a candle? :)
BTW, I've also scanned many old notes and documents and disposed of
the original copies. That saves space, and makes it easier to carry
around. A CD (or DVD) is so much more compact and lighter than a big
pile of paper.
