Cathedral comes from ancient Greek kathedra for seat and
chair, combining kata for down with hedra for seat or chair.
However, this word combination may cover an earlier one:
KOD EDR for the tent or hut wherein a council was held,
KOD for tent or hut, EDR for seat.
Let me ponder the twelve permutations of RED and RES,
concerning a council held in a tent or hut.
You know the rules of the game: 1) inverse forms are directly
related to each other, 2) permutations yield words around
the same meme, 3) D-forms are comparated in S-forms,
4) important words can have clusters of lateral associations.
RED --- a speaker; ancient Greek rhaetor for speaker,
German Rede for speech, Redner for speaker
RES --- speech, topic of a speech; ancient Greek rhaesis
for to speak, talk, word, narration, Latin res for thing, topic,
concern, res publica for the concern of the public, of the
entire community
DER --- baldric worn by a speaker, made of leather;
ancient Greek derma for skin, fur, leather, hose
SER --- a necklace with animal teeth worn by an important
speaker, a supreme ruler or a shaman; ancient Greek seira
for rope, chain
EDR --- a seat in the tent or hut wherein the council is held;
ancient Greek hedra for seat, chair
ESR --- elevated seat of an important speaker, a supreme
ruler or shaman; ancient Greek thronos English throne
RDE --- protector of the tent or hut wherein a council is held;
ancient Greek rhutaer for protector (...)
RSE --- protector of the camp wherein a council is held;
ancient Greek rhuesi-polis for protector of a town
DRE --- finding out what to do, resolution, plan for taking
action; ancient Greek drao for I do, act, accomplish,
dromenon for deed, undertaking, plan
SRE --- being decided about a resolution; ancient Greek
sre- for strong -- from my memory, will have to look it up
again at home, the entry is lacking on my ***, sorry
ERD --- to carry out a resolution one agreed upon at
a council; ancient Greek erdo for I do, make, act (...)
ERS --- to carry out a resolution in a fresh and decided
way; ancient Greek ersaeis for fresh (...), arsaen for
virile, strong, ho arsaen for man
KOD EDR would then mean a hut or tent wherein a council
is held -- any larger hut or tent, furnished with the special
seats edr, perhaps logs covered with the best furs and hides
a camp can offer. These two words would then be the hidden
origin of cathedral, a large church wherein a bishop has (or
once had) his chair.
Combine DRE for resolution, undertaking, plan, with IDA
for happy, and you obtain DRE IDA for a good resolution,
a fine plan, a happy undertaking. Maybe the origin of Latin
Druidae for Druid, Druidess? A lateral association of IDA
for happy, lucky, may be IDE for Latin idea (same meaning
in English), while the permutation EID may stay for an image,
a picture, ancient Greek eidolon. Will have to ponder IDE EID
and further permutations, also comparative ISE EIS ...

Here is the missing entry from yesterday:
SRE --- being decided about a resolution, a plan, an
undertaking; ancient Greek zoros for strong, powerful,
vigorous, nourishing
Latin res covers about all the topics that may have been
discussed at a council hold in a Magdalenian tent or hut
by the name of KOD -- or KOD EDR as a larger tent or
hut furnished with seats, logs covered with the best furs
and hides a tribe could provide for the occasion.
See also my etymological thread.
For the record, I am the only one who answered the
original question, while the other posters gave literature
to look up. Thus I am justly getting killrated, of curse.
