Thanks Lee.

I was able to save a PDF as text with plain old Adobe Acrobat Read -
File > Save As Text.
The Python script I got from alt.language.artificial worked like a
charm. Mission accomplished. :-)
No futzing with Linux required, although I aspire to futz with it.
