This thing that adults do is a different thing from what children
do. It's not meaningful to compare the speeds of the two processes
in this way.

My own experience from trying to check myself if it is true, that generally children learn faster than adults is, that adults are often able to learn much faster than children can.

I suppose, that the (wrong) prejudice is based on the fact that the time, level of attention and efforts children put in learning is extremely underestimated and at the same time the time, level of attention and efforts (the lazy and not really willing to learn) adults put in learning is overestimated.
