It's not impossible that a parasite could specialize in male birds.

The cockchafer eats vegetation. The first element could be an alteration of
Eng. dial. <clock> 'beetle' (as in <dung-clock> '_Geotrypes stercorarius_'),
making the compound tautological, or it could be <***> 'lump, ball, round
heap, hayrick', or it could indeed be <***> 'male bird' in reference to its
large size, as <horse> is similarly used in other compounds.
