Re: Patterns of phoneme sequences in words

In Hebrew, the following letter shapes represent a pair of sounds:

bet/vet = B / V
kaf/khaf = K / KH
peh/feh = P / F

In modern Hebrew, there is a tendency for these letters to have the
first sound (B, K, P) in initial position and the second sound (V, KH,
F) in any other position.

I am reminded of the Israeli who asked me the meaning of an English
word that he saw transliterated into Hebrew. He read the word as
"pliffers". The word was "flippers", the meaning of which he already
knew.
