looked like the locals who are mostly Europeans. And people would ask

I have an Argentinean friend who is a native Spanish speaker but he is
not a Mestizo and he lives in SF and the Latinos do not want to speak
to him in Spanish even though he is native speaker. His social skills
are Latin American, but something happens in the US with Latinos. Some
complex develops. They do not talk to him in Spanish. His hair is not
black enough.

As far as social skills, etc. I apply the same social skills in
Argentina and the US and in Argentina the result is: people talk back
to me in Spanish but in the US a chest is puffed up and a look down
their noses follows. So, it is not just ME. It is THEM, too.

So it turns out, from the last three paragraphs, that you're a
garden-variety racist. Go away.

Would you please stop intimidating him. Frankly, it was quite lousy of
you to call him a racist.

Do you have a politer word for the sentiments he expressed?

Do you use some extravagant definition of your own for "racism"? In my
opinion, he is rather giving vent to his feelings about what he
perceives as racism, i.e., inverted racism, against himself and against
light-skinned native speakers of Spanish. If you call that "racism",
you are yourself a bigot, purposefully intimidating him. Besides, there
are shades of racism. Even though a person might be prejudiced, he or
she does not need to be a bigot. Bigots are impossible to reason with,
but mildly prejudiced persons who are not one-track-minded bigots can
be quite nice and can have something worthwhile to say, if you keep in
mind their opinions might be unduly influenced by their particular set
of prejudices.

I am terribly sorry to say this, Peter, but after reading your postings
for some time, this is simply my honest opinion: you are a bigot and/or
a bully. For all I know you might be a competent linguist, but, for all
I know, you are most definitely a bully with an antisocial attitude
towards other people. I am quite happy to change my judgment about the
latter, if you show a little more manners. No offense meant, this is
just how it seems to me. And, to give you the benefit of the doubt,
even nice persons are known to act bully on the Usenet.
