Framemaker is only easier for people who like to use the mouse a lot,
and that's not me. For people used to working with markup and in a
text-editor like Vi or Emacs, LaTeX is a pleasure to work with and
WYSIWYG programs seem a pain because all that switching between
keyboard and mouse just slows one down.

Furthermore, LaTeX is Free Software (TeX is not under the most
permissive of licenses, but is nonetheless quite libre), while
Framemaker is a proprietary solution offered by only one company.
