Hi,

Can anybody identify or translate this script on a ring we have? It
looks Asian to me, but I'm really not sure!

An offhand guess would be a cursive variety of Chinese; but it's a
signet ring; in order to read it properly, you must impress it in wax
(or some suitable substitute, like modeling clay), and read the
impression.

The first and third characters (reading right to left) don't look particularly cursive. The third one seems not exactly "moon," but more "moon" than "eye." (I tend to see "base," or the "pan" of "Japan" in the first one.

Characters 2 and 4, which seem to be identical, look like phony baloney to me (I rewrote them backwards); I hope we get some answers from the Chinese members of this group.
