Why do you repeat it?

Because I heard someone do it again just yesterday, at the end of
every sentence. It tends to get worse. I think it was on BBC world in
an interview with an American. What's worse, the British interviewer
tended to start doing it too, almost.

So it has nothing to do with "Americans" and all to do with your
prejudices.

The effect was very much stronger in the speech of the American
speaker.

Did you ever force yourself to listen to the Mandy Patinkin records I
told you about?

(If you like the songs he sings, I hope not.)

"I listened to some fragments of his at Amazon, but didn't hear creaky
voice yet. Couldn't find that particular song though. "

Did you ever force yourself [...]

Force? I don't have to force myself, once I find a fragment where he
uses creaky voice. You mentioned:
His "Younger than Springtime" from the concert album of *South
Pacific* is especially horribly egregious.

Looked again but couldn't find it.
Perhaps what you refer to is the voice he uses in track 2 and 5
("Coffee In A Cardboard Cup" and "Love, Unrequited, Robs Me Of My
Rest") of the CD "Mandy Patinki"? Fragments of it can be heard from
http://www.nl.bol.com/ .
