Re: Gender in language

Ar an naoú lá is fiche de mí Méan Fómhair, scríobh Jens S. Larsen:

Are blue eyes learned? Not every human has them...

I'll ask again, but this time try to stick with language.

Why do you think that it is "hard-wired" and not a learned feature?

Because it doesn't make sense. There must be a hard-wired possibility
to develop grammatical gender, otherwise it's too hard to remember.

***. One, or two bits per word?

Remember, I'm talking about language here. Not physical features of an
organism. Language.

Language is a physical feature of the human organism.

Certainly. It’s unproven that it’s different to other learned patterns of
behaviour in this, though.
