query about the reading of 圾 as ji1 on the mainland and se4 in Taiwan. The
character doesn't seem to be used often by itself, but comes as 垃圾 meaning
rubbish, waste, trash etc.

Just for clarification, as far as I am aware, 垃圾 is pronounced "le4 se4" in Standard Mandarin as spoken in Taiwan; and as "la1 ji1" in mainland Chinese Putonghua.
