Such names would be considered dialect then, like the local city names
in Italian dialects.

or Morocco the French-language names of cities on its soil?
I hope French-speakers would (rightly) keep using the normal French name.
I was once talking to a Frenchman who said he was from Marseille and
was trying to explain where it was. "Massalia", I said, to indicate
that I knew where it was. "Yes, Massalia!", he exclaimed and proceeded
to call it Massalia for the rest of the conversation.
