I haven't followed this much in detail, but the use of "information" here
is just a catchy way to put it. That is, it does not have anything to do
with a formal definition of information as a physically measurable
quantity, or at least not in a accepted way in a verified physical theory.

Maldacena's holographic principle is your theory. If I
understand it correctly, matter is a holographic emanation
of information.

Not really, just a another physical manifestation of structure.
Information is what is recognized as that.

Brings me back to my insight from 1963:
when I do a chore in a clever way, I save energy, ergo
information and energy are somehow related, perhaps
even equivalent, as energy and matter in Einstein's world?

Sure, as a survival method of the human race.

My idea was politely declined by a physicist in the early
1970s, and again by a group of physicists in the 1990s.

But not as the basis of a physical theory. :-)

Meanwhile I see confirmation glimmer on the horizon.
Energy and matter are equivalent (Einstein), ...

In the sense that they can be converted into each other.

...information
and matter are equivalent (Maldacena), information is
a form of energy (Eric J. Chaisson).

Well, in the context of a valid physical theories, both are wrong.

Applying energy
is the way to handle matter, applying intelligence is
the way to handle information, ergo ...

If the Moon is a cheese, then the sky is green; perfectly true if one
agrees that the Moon isn't cheese.

Energy is the currency of the world (Chaisson).

As is everything else for which demand exceeds supply.

Intelligence and energy are related, ...

In the sense that human intelligence is required in order to
create theories about physical energy.

...perhaps even
equivalent (my teenage insight).

Not in the sense of a valid physical theory.

Invest in the young,
maintain good schools, and it will pay. Neglect education
and you are bound to lose, all the oil in the world won't
help you. I dedicate this to the winners of the congress
election in the USA.

Sounds like you are striving for a theory unifying politics and physics.
But the problem of unifying GR and QM is already hard enough... :-)
