Sounds plausible. It is natural to expect that colloquial words are not so eligible to theoretically reformed spellings based on morphological analysis as more accepted words are. (I'm not saying that the spelling "tällainen" is based purely on such theoretical grounds. It _can_ be pronounced as it is written, too. The normal pronunciation as I hear - and use - the word is "tällänen", though.)

I have never seen an official statement about "tämmöinen" not being acceptable in standard literary Finnish, but I have seen people's reactions that indicate that they don't regard it as quite standard. The language guide "Uusi kieliopas" by Terho Itkonen (who was rather conservative) and Sari Maamies describes "tämmöinen" as being common especially in speech in Western Finland and acceptable in standard Finnish too ("käypä myös kirjakielessä"). But such a statement means, effectively, that there are doubts about its acceptability.
