One of my biggest complaints with Fortson's book, after I leafed through it in Blackwell's having heard so much about it, was how he

peripheral as those views are. That's a big part of the reason why
I wouldn't recommend his book to anybody.
I think this might apply if you expect research level criticism. To outsiders (like me) who want a survey, I feel this book is very fine.
The author's project is presenting the mainstream of the PIE
research; and if an aspect is under discussion among specialists, he
says so. What he doesn't do is go into detail about those
discussions.
I don't think that Neeraj was complaining about that - though it is
debatable if that's a very paedagogic approach. I think Neeraj is
talking against useless simplification and presenting as mainstream
things that are not clearly so.
