That's really not relevant to the facts I stated.

Be that as it may, it's what Mel Brooks says. They were sending up quality
material, not some TV series junk you might have liked.

And they were doing it in fully idiomatic English.

If you didn't appreciate "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.," then you were a
jerk even 40+ years ago.

What made the series work was that it took up the relation of men and women,
that the woman likes the James Bond dashing daring and accommodates the
Clouseau results, as something she's nevertheless satisfied with.

Watch 99's constant relation to Smart.

The Man from Uncle has no place in the idea.

The 5-season series is just out on DVD, by the way. You can check it yourself.
