In Chicago, the term "U-boat" is known, because the U-505 has been on
display at the Museum of Science and Industry for 50 years or so. Did
the term persist in English usage elsewhere for any appreciable time
after the cessation of hostilities?

In India, but not as a generic term for a submarine; only for the
U-boats of the kind that once prowled the Indian Ocean both to the east
and west of India. "Flying boat" was used as a generic term for a
seaplane (i.e., even one that didn't land on its fuselage).
