What do you get when a group of women are well-heeled in one language,

To me the expression 'well-heeled' means only 'wealthy'. Does anybody else find Heidi's use odd, or am I isolated?

Ever heard of the expression "wealth of knowledge?" When I refered to
some of the women being well-heeled in one language, I meant
having a wealth of knowledge in regards to that language. Well-heeled,
well travelled, well-experienced, iow, having gained a wealth of
knowledge about something.

Of course I know the expression "wealth of knowledge". What I haven't come across is any transferred use of the adjective 'wealthy' (which is why I used it, rather than 'rich' which does have a host of transferred meanings).

And even if 'wealthy' is used like that, it doesn't follow that a phrase which means 'wealthy' will necessarily be similarly extended.

I continue to find your use odd.

That's o.k., Colin. I actually had it in mind to use the phrase "well versed" in
one language. However, I made a deliberate choice *not* to do that. So,
instead of refering to an oral action, I chose to hoof it instead. Travel
across the country stayed in mind. And we spoke Gerblish while
travelling. So, under these circumstances, "well-heeled" appeared
more appropriate to me than "well-versed." It's a choice I made and
if you find it odd...that's perfectly alright by me! ;-)

Take care,
Heidi
