Mr. Schmidt holds at the moment the opinion, that the "hieroglyphs" of
Göbekli Tepe are not a true writing system, because no semantic system
(repeated signs in the same order etc.) can be deduced. But the signs at
Göbekli Tepe are not simple decoration either, they have belonged to the
still enigmatic symbolic world of Göbekli Tepe, and may be seen, like
the representations of animals as part of a mythology (or mythological
stories) we can not yet decode.
