There is no relationship between this assessment and the responses you received to your poll. I just ran through the first few levels of response and found not one person who said you shouldn't participate.

I've been told on three occasions to leave this forum, three different
people made this request.

I've also noticed demands by various other folks that other posters
leave this forum, too, despite them posting *on-topic* and in
a courteous manner.

Do a google search for "leave" for this forum. Not only is this word
being discussed dealing with its usage and meaning, but also
it is being used by a number of people demanding someone
leave this forum...and it's not just me that this is being
directed at.

The folks who demand someone to leave this forum, do
not grasp that this is a *public* and *open* forum that
*anyone* has a right to access to. Yes, you can smack
down trolls and you can report vile and abusive
posters. But, other than that, *no-one*...absolutely
*no-one* has the right to demand someone leave
this forum...be that me..or anyone else!

I found a few notes that conveyed irritation over the way you participate,

Yes, and being irritated is not the same as actually telling someone to leave.

over your failure to incorporate into your understanding the very information you claim to appreciate and enjoy, but nobody said you should leave. This would seem to confirm the impressions some have expressed that you don't really read what's being written to you.

Oh, I read what's written in the way of responses to my posts and my
queries. I also think about what is written. None of this stuff is lost on
me. What some people may be irritated at is that I do not always
jump on the bandwagon right away claiming, "Yes, you are right!"

There are far too many different ideas by assorted sci.lang members
for meto side with anyone in particular. What I do is simply collect
all the different view-points and assess them based on how
well they are supported. What I eventually end up doing
with all the material that I gather, I keep to myself. If folks
here want my validation for their ideas and their theories,
they're asking the wrong person!
